Sandra Vasecka asked what would happen if this change order was not approved. David stated that the project would stop.
Heidi West talked about the chain link fence and her desire to not replace with more permanent fencing. Heidi would like to use the elevator space and area under the bridge in a more creative way.
Patir, Missoula resident, asked about possible restricted public use on bridge after reopening and the possible use of Black Knight Security at the bridge location. He encouraged the council to be fiscally responsible and to not spend money on aesthetics, like removing a fence to just replace it with something that looks nicer.
David responded that when the bridge is reopened it will be available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Bob Giordano, Missoula Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Free Cycles, discussed the bridge being critical to Missoula and the Northside/Westside. He is in support of fixing bridge but states there are currently no good alternative routes. He listed problems with the Orange Street Tunnel, Scott Street Overpass and the North Second street access. He requests improvements to the North Second Street access for biking and walking, namely a trail, possibly of decomposed granite. He says these improvements will be beneficial even after the reopening of the Northside Ped Bridge.
Mirtha Becerra states the bridge is good for bikes and pedestrians, but with the elevator not working, she wonders how people in wheelchairs access the bridge.
